It is the financial instrument for the Environment (LIFE), one of
the spearheads of the European Union's Community environmental policy.
Since it was introduced in 1992, it co-finances actions in three areas:-
LIFE-Nature actions aimed at the conservation of natural habitats
and the wild fauna and flora of interest in the EU and candidate countries.
LIFE-Environment actions which aim to implement the Community policy and
legislation on the environment in the EU and candidate countries.
LIFE-Third countries actions concerning technical assistance activities for
promoting sustainable development in third countries.
