  Pollagoona, Extension Site

Pollagoona, Slieve Aughty, Co. Clare, an Irish Bog Restoration Project Site in IrelandStarting in 2006, an additional 28.7 hectares of afforested peatland, mainly to the west and north of the open bog SAC area, were felled in order to restore the blanket bog habitat. A small area the conifer crop in this area was removed for sale while trees in the remainder of the site were felled to waste and left on site. This work will result in the restoration of the ecological connectivity between the core intact SAC bog area and a larger area of open blanket bog to the west.
